ABOUT KRYSALIS

Krysalis is a  dance program crafted by Kami Liddle. The objective of the overall program is to help dancers develop and refine their knowledge base and to experience and elevate the dancer through four individual courses. The intention is not to teach dancers to dance a particular way, but rather, to nurture the path of each dancer and give them the tools to create their own authentic movement.​

Krysalis consists of four courses:

Invocation: Foundation of Contemporary Fusion Belly Dance Technique 

Expansion: Professional Performance Intensive 

Conception: Choreography Creation Lab

Elevation*: Advanced Technique 

*Courses can be taken individually and in no particular order except for Elevation which requires certification of Invocation before enrolling.

ABOUT CONCEPTION

Conception is an inquiry-based intensive focused on the creative process of dance making and how to develop your voice as an artist.

You will spend 30 plus hours with a group of peers learning movement and technique paired with specific activities to explore how to arrange movement and make it your own. You’ll receive support, tools, and a community of peers as you create your own choreography, explore your vision, and take both to the next level.

We’ll delve into elements of time, space, shape, dynamics, musicality and texture, but then we’ll take it further. We’ll learn how to form your vision through movement and put it on your body, other dancers, and groups.

This intensive is geared towards dancers of any level or style, although 3 or more years of dance experience is recommended. 

The Krysalis program is designed to meet you where you are, no matter the level.

Tuesday, 8 August to Saturday, 12 August

Dance Studio, Zwinglistrasse 7, 9000 St. Gallen

10:00 – 13:00 Class

13:00 – 14:00 Lunch break

14:00 – 17:00 Class

Classes will include: group creative exercises, studies of self-exploration and artistic individuality, class critique, observations, and feedback. 

Each day Kami will lead class through movement exercises in contemporary fusion belly dance, however this intensive is meant to be useful to dancers who dance any style or technique. 

Friday, 11 August:

Studio Pittoreska, Linsebühlstrasse 41, 9000 St. Gallen

From 18:00 Hafla at Studio Pittoreska

We will enjoy a casual evening together – feel free to share your dance, be it choreography or improvisation, or just dance your heart out! There will be some snacks and drinks offered, feel free to contribute anything to the table.

Depending on the weather, we will arrange more optional group activities like lake swimming, picnic or barbecue.

HOMEWORK

There will be an optional reading assignment as well as a choreography rough draft to be prepared before the intensive. More info will be provided after registration.

PREREQUISITES

• This intensive is geared towards dancers of any level or style, although 3 or more years of dance experience is recommended
• The ability to dance 6+ hours per day
• English language proficiency (some English/Deutsch translation is provided)

What is the refund policy?

All registrations are binding, non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another course/workshop. The terms and conditions of Pittoreska Dance & Movement apply.

Which payments do you accept?

Our accounts are in Swiss Francs. Regardless of which currency you transfer in, please make sure to cover any conversion rates and transfer fees so we receive the full amount in Swiss Francs. Apart from bank transfer, we accept Paypal (pittoreskabellydance@gmail.com) and Revolut (please contact info@pittoreska.com)

Is there a payment plan available?

A payment plan is available for total amounts over CHF 300. To secure your spot, a minimum deposit of CHF 300 is due within 10 days upon confirmation of registration. The remaining amount is to be paid in a maximum of two additional instalments; all fees due by July 1, 2023. Please make sure to cover all conversion and transaction fees with every payment. If this payment plan causes you difficulties, please reach out to us.

Is my registration transferable to another person?

If you are unable to attend, you can transfer your place to another participant, which is your responsibility. Please contact info@pittoreska.com and in case there is a waiting list, you will be put in touch with the next person on the list so you can process the transfer directly with each other. Once you have sold your spot, please send an email to info@pittoreska.com (cc: the new participant) confirming that you have officially transferred your spot and providing us their contact information.

What about accommodation and parking in St. Gallen?

The city centre is very small and everything is within walking distance. There are several car parks in the city centre, but they are relatively expensive. The outdoor parking spaces in the neighbourhood are cheaper, but usually limited in time. You can buy daily or monthly permits for unlimited parking in certain zones. You can find more information here.

Hotels are relatively expensive in Switzerland and it's a good idea to check out Airbnb options. Dancers stayed at the TouchBed City Apartments before, which they found highly recommendable. To help you find your way around St. Gallen, we have created a map of all sorts of places we found useful.

Amanda Pittoreska, Kami Liddle and her staff have the right to deny enrollment or participation to anyone at any time before or during the course.
